About Us
Soulful Celebrant Training is a partnership between Isabel Lockhart, an experienced award-winning Celebrant, and Kyle Murtagh, a presentation skills trainer and professional speaker.
We believe that a great ceremony is not just about the words, but also the delivery. Our training will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to create and deliver ceremonies that resonate with your clients.
The Training Programme
The Celebrant Training
To give you a personal learning experience, our Celebrant Training is one-to-one. You can choose to learn in person in beautiful Aberdeenshire or online via Zoom. This is spread over five days with each session lasting approximately four hours.
After the course, you'll have six weeks to finish your assignments and do your Presentation Skills Training (see below).
Presentation Skills Training
After completion of your Celebrant Training, you will then have four half hour sessions with Kyle Murtagh. These are delivered via Zoom and will equip you with the confidence and skills to deliver your ceremonies with impact.
If you have a proven track record of public speaking eg as a MC or have already worked with Kyle, you may be exempt.
Certification
Upon completing the training and assessments, you will be issued a Certificate of Competency. This certificate demonstrates that you meet the standards upheld by Soulful Celebrant Training.
The training does not give you the authority to perform legal wedding ceremonies.

Isabel Lockhart
My journey as a celebrant started in 2019 after the death of my son, Ben. The experience with the celebrant was awful, filled with mistakes and insensitivity, mainly due to copying and pasting from an old ceremony and, as they put it, “Working on my phone while rushing between appointments.”
I made a promise there and then that I would never copy and paste and I never do.
Unfortunately, this unforgiveable experience is not uncommon.
I’m appalled to hear of abysmal experiences from clients, from incorrect names to turning up to a Ceremony with the wrong script, or the Celebrant having such poor presentation skills that a couple cannot bear to watch their wedding video because it makes them cringe.
We need better trained Celebrants
I concluded that part of the problem is the training. Often you are issued with a certificate for attending, not because you have met any standard.
Soulful Celebrant Training was created to address the balance and be part of the solution and not the problem. I make no apology for the high standards I expect from all of the trainees and I will not issue a Certificate of Competence unless these standards are met.
Kyle Murtagh
